Daniel Henney discusses Lan’s (and Moiraine’s) upcoming obstacles in season 2 of “The Wheel of Time”. With its adaptation of the “Wheel of Time” series, Amazon Prime Video staked its claim on another high-fantasy realm before the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power this fall. The first season launched in November of last year, and it was one of Amazon’s most successful launches ever. Amazon gave “The Wheel of Time“ a second season before it even premiered, demonstrating the streaming service’s faith in the series. Fans are eagerly awaiting word on when that will happen.
“The Wheel of Time”, as many have pointed out, deviates significantly from Robert Jordan’s original works. As a result, even those who have watched all 14 episodes are unsure of the show’s future direction. When The Wheel of Time last left off, Rand (Josha Stradowski), the series’ newly revealed Chosen One, had just finished his first true confrontation with the Dark One (Fares Fares) and vanished into the unknown. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a powerful Aes Sedai, didn’t fare as well; the Dark One took away her capacity to access the One Power, leaving her and her Warder Lan (Henney) without a way out.
As a result, Lan and Moiraine will find themselves in a precarious situation in Season 2 of “The Wheel of Time”. Henney teased the hardships the united couple will encounter in season 2 in a recent interview with Contentmode. Henney warned that there may be some huge challenges ahead, particularly in Lan’s storyline. He also summed up Season 2 in an unusual manner. Henney explained:
Lan and Moiraine will be tested. Individually and as a Warder/Aes Sedai unit. They’ll face challenges that have huge implications. I consider season 2 a “journey season” for Lan. He will be faced with many moments and situations that force him to question everything he’s believed in and how he’s lived his life up to this point. It’s really hard for me to not give too much away, but I will say this- 2 swords, multiple fades, blood….lots of blood.
Lan has been loyal to Moiraine since the first episode of “The Wheel of Time”; as her Warder, he is both her traveling companion and guardian and the two share a spiritual link that has been severed due to Moiraine’s loss of the One Power. Henney’s suggestions about Lan doubting all he’s believed in are most likely due to the twist from the “Wheel of Time” season 1 finale. His world has changed, and he and Moiraine must both find new ways to continue the struggle against the darkness in the future.
Season 2 of “The Wheel of Time” appears to be equally as action-packed and violent as the first. Though not on the same level as Game of Thrones, the Amazon series didn’t shy away from being brutal in some of its fight scenes. Of course, Henney could be exaggerating with his blood tease; fans will have to wait and see when “The Wheel of Time” season 2 is released on Prime Video to find out.
