Gwendoline Christie of Game of Thrones and Star Wars reprises her role as Lucifer in a new picture from Netflix’s “The Sandman” series.
A new glimpse at Lucifer’s attire may be seen in a picture from “The Sandman” episode. In Netflix’s forthcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s DC Comics series, Gwendoline Christie portrays the ruler of Hell. The British actress is most known for playing Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones (for which she was nominated for an Emmy in 2019), as well as Captain Phasma of the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and briefly in The Last Jedi.
Since 1991, there have been various efforts to adapt “The Sandman“ to the cinema, including a feature film starring and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who abandoned the production in 2016 due to artistic disagreements. The concept was subsequently taken to Netflix by producers Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer, who struck a deal to create the series in 2019. Tom Sturridge, a two-time Tony nominee, stars as Morpheus, a.k.a. Dream, alongside Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting parts in The Sandman. Despite the fact that The Sandman does not have a premiere date until 2022, Netflix has lately ramped up its promotional campaign with a variety of glimpses at the fantasy series.
Netflix has just released a new picture from “The Sandman” series, providing a new look at Lucifer. The snapshot, labeled “Have you come to join forces?” and posted to the Netflix show’s official Twitter account, features Gwendoline Christie in costume as the show’s queen of Hell. The image was posted shortly after Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer was first shown in Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022 promo, wearing silky white robes with black wings. Lucifer is now dressed entirely in all-black, gleaming leather. Christie’s Lucifer was originally shown during last year’s DC FanDome event, with a close-up of the character’s wavy blonde hair and bat-like wings.
All of these shots reveal a Lucifer that resembles the character’s original appearance in the comics, primarily the golden locks and black wings, which is a far cry from the portrayal in the 2016 Lucifer television series starring Tom Ellis. Gaiman and his team contemplated having Ellis reprise his role as Lucifer, but decided against it since his rendition would have required too much tweaking for “The Sandman”. Instead, they went with a more accurate adaptation from the comics. During Netflix’s virtual Geeked Week event next month, expect further peeks at Christie’s comic-accurate Lucifer and potentially a release date for “The Sandman”.
