In addition to Ramsey, The Last of Us will star fellow Game of Thrones alumni Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller. Nico Parker as Sarah, Gabriel Luna and Tommy as Tommy, Anna Torv playing Tess, Merle Dandridge reprising her role as Marlene in the games. Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty dog, is executive producing and writing The Last of Us with Craig Mazin ( Chernobyl). Season 1 will have 10 episodes. It adapts the events of The Last of Us (2013). The series follows Joel and Ellie as their journey through a country infected by the virus. The series is currently being shot in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and will be released sometime next year.Ramsey spoke out about being a beloved character in large-scale productions, including the pressures that comes with it. Ramsey stated that The Last of Us is her biggest production, despite having worked on Game of Thronesand Dark Materials. Below is her take on the matter.
“It [The Last of Us] does definitely feel like the biggest thing I have done and I have to not think about that too much as it freaks me out a little bit. When I got over here I had two weeks’ quarantine alone with my thoughts and I had to not think about the scale of it…Game of Thrones was the first thing I ever did and that was HBO. The same exec Carolyn Strauss on that is also producing this, so it feels like it’s come full circle – it’s really nice.”
Based on leaked set photos, which revealed the Boston Quarantine Zone and Texas during the outbreak, first looks at Pascal’s Joel, Ramsey’s Ellie and Tory’s Tess cross a deserted town ? The Last of Us Production truly aims to capture the spirit of the games. The pilot of the show will likely cover the events in Texas. However, most of the series will be set twenty years later. Joel and Tess will meet up in Boston Quarantine Zone, before Marlene and Ellie get involved.
The Last of Us has an eight-figure budget for each episode. It is currently one of Canada’s most expensive productions. This may seem small compared to the $10million budget of Game of Thrones’ final series. Ramsey is currently working in several remodeled locations and his profile will likely grow exponentially after the release. Additionally, The Last of Us, one of the most loved games of the 21st Century, places a lot of pressure upon the series to honour familiar characters and locations while also introducing new ones. This is especially true in the wake of The Last of Us Part II.
