Amazon has revealed three more character names from “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s” cast. The marketing engine for Amazon’s planned The Lord of the Rings adaptation has finally begun after years of keeping things under wraps. The series was first revealed in 2017, and despite having one of the largest casts of any fantasy show, Prime Video kept everything under wraps for a long time. The Rings of Power, the show’s title, wasn’t even disclosed until January 2022. Given that the J.R.R. Tolkien-based drama is less than seven months away from premiering, Amazon has begun to reveal the show’s many closely guarded secrets.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is already making history as the most expensive television show ever made, as seen by the latest photographs and footage. After Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies examined Middle-Third earth’s Age, “The Rings of Power” concentrates on the story of Middle-Second earth’s Age, thousands of years before. The Amazon Prime Video drama, from showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, will focus on the creation of the Rings of Power, as well as the birth of the malevolent Sauron. The series has been dubbed “the novel that Tolkien never wrote” by Payne and McKay, who promise unexpected twists and turns while simultaneously honoring the author’s great work.
Amazon has revealed the names of three more series regulars as the studio continues to reveal the names of the majority of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s” huge ensemble. The Stranger, Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot, and High King Gil-galad will be played by Daniel Weyman, Markella Kavenagh, and Benjamin Walker, respectively. Kavenagh was previously revealed to be portraying a harfoot, hobbits’ Second-Age forefathers. Meanwhile, Mark Ferguson played Gil-galad in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’s prologue. Character descriptions are not supplied at this time, aside from disclosing their identities.
The latest teaser trailer for “The Rings of Power” has all three cast members in varied roles. Nori appears to be the first character in the footage to speak, asking whether anyone has ever “wonder what else is out there?” At one moment, a very concerned Gil-galad is seen staring up, his face indicating that he is detecting something troubling. The Stranger features at least one recognizable moment; Amazon verifies that the unknown hands holding the red apple are those of Weyman’s character, and it appears that someone with smaller fingers takes his hand at the very end.
The Stranger is very certainly a temporary moniker until his unknown role in “The Rings of Power” is revealed. Given the extreme secrecy, it’s entirely possible that this is someone from the Lord of the Rings movie. It’s always possible that Weyman’s character is referred to as “The Stranger” on the show, although it seems doubtful. With the official confirmation of these three characters, it’ll be interesting to see what else “The Rings of Power” has in store as the show approaches its September 2 premiere date.
