Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith in the “Game of Thrones” spinoff, can be seen in a new “House of the Dragon” picture wearing full armor. The notorious Westerosi family will be depicted in their heyday and the prequel series by Miguel Sapochnik, George R. R. Martin, and Ryan J. Condal will show the events leading up to their fall. “House of the Dragon“, which takes place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones“, is anticipated to advance the enormous Targaryen civil war known as the Dance (or Dying of the Dragons).
“House of the Dragon“, which will feature a new cast of characters, will resemble “Game of Thrones” in some ways, particularly the family drama on a kingdom-wide scale that infused the political intrigue of the fantasy universe with real-world stakes and humanity. This time, the Targaryens will be at the center of a lot of the action, and they’ll undoubtedly turn out to be less likeable than the good-hearted Starks. When “House of the Dragon” begins, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), Daenerys’ brother and namesake, is in charge. Despite her gender, Viserys supports his daughter Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) claim to the throne. Rhys Ifans plays Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King. Smith portrays Daemon Targaryen, the king’s younger brother and a renowned warrior with a volatile disposition.
Smith can be seen in a new image released by Empire as the legendary fighter. He is dressed in full Targaryen armor and appears to be getting ready for battle. Look at the illustration below:
According to the showrunners’ and lead actors’ comments, “House of the Dragon” will be a gripping and deserving replacement for “Game of Thrones“. There is a rivalry between the characters that Smith and Ifans have hinted will be profitable. And Daemon is being positioned as a fearsome foe to Hightower with the new image’s intimidating stance. Fans of Westerosi drama are accustomed to plots and power struggles, but “House of the Dragon” will feature a number of unique elements. One well-known competent and kind-hearted monarch is King Viserys, which is uncommon for “Game of Thrones” viewers. It is unknown if the King will recognize his younger brother’s instability.
Many viewers are reluctant to return to the kingdom of Westeros after the criticism that “Game of Thrones” season 8 received out of fear of being let down again. Although this is a reasonable stance, the “House of the Dragon” information that has been revealed thus far indicates that the game will take a deep dive into excellent high fantasy storytelling. It’s exciting to see HBO return to Martin’s novels and create something new, with lots more dragons, given the current fantasy renaissance on streaming, which includes “The Witcher“, “Wheel of Time“, and “LOTR: The Rings of Power“.
