Charlie Vickers, who played Halbrand in the “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power“, describes their fateful encounter on the Sundering Seas. The upcoming J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation on Amazon Prime Video takes place during the Second Age of Middle-earth, which is thousands of years before The Hobbit and the “Lord of the Rings“. Galadriel and Elrond, two immortal Elves, will make a return in the prequel series. Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett played them in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy predecessors. Morfydd Clark from His Dark Materials and Robert Aramayo from Game of Thrones respectively now portray them.
In addition, a huge number of new characters from Tolkien’s legendarium and those made specifically for the show, such as humans, elves, dwarves, harfoots, and orcs, will be introduced in “Rings of Power”. One of the most significant new characters in Halbrand is played by newcomer Charlie Vickers. He plays a human running from his past whose fate is intertwined with the young Galadriel, who is still developing into the ethereal Elven queen fans know and love. This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, a brand-new “Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power” trailer debuted, and new details are still trickling out of the convention.
Vickers shared some intriguing new plot details for Prime Video’s eagerly anticipated “Lord of the Rings” show during Collider’s interviews with the “Rings of Power” cast at SDCC 2022. The Halbrand actor claims that a fateful encounter with Galadriel on the Sundering Seas during a severe storm defines the journey of his character. Check out what he said below:
There’s a chance had he not met her that his life might have not gone on? And I think that that’s interesting. In that moment, when they first meet, they are survival to each other. It’s like if he hadn’t met her, he was still stuck on this raft in the middle of the Sundering Seas. So I think that their fates crossing paths opens up this whole world for Hal and makes him question so many things in his past, and then it also makes him reassess the kind of man he might be in the future.
Vickers describes one of the most intricate sequences in “Rings of Power” on the Sundering Seas, which takes place halfway between Aman and Middle-earth, in the comments above. In the first episode, Galadriel and Halbrand cross paths by chance in the middle of a vast body of water and are forced to seek shelter on a sparse raft together to survive a storm. Galadriel is depicted in “Rings of Power” as an eleven-year-old warrior who rides into battle on a horse and sails the Sundering Seas and mountains, even though she eventually becomes the ruler of Lothlórien.
Vickers’ remarks suggest that Galadriel and Halbrand’s tales in “Rings of Power” will start with their encounter on the Sundering Seas, binding their fates together for the duration of the series. Though little is known about Hal or the past he is trying to escape, it appears that the unidentified man will quickly become a close ally of Galadriel. It is simple to picture Galadriel and Halbrand eventually fighting alongside one another to defeat the Dark Lord, all made possible by their fateful encounter on the Sundering Seas, given that The “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will detail Sauron’s ascent to power and probably the War of the Last Alliance.
