Odin, the ruler of the Norse Gods who Kratos and Atreus will probably clash with in their upcoming adventure, is getting his first probable public appearance thanks to a new “God of War Ragnarok” leak. After the events of 2018’s God of War reboot, Kratos and Atreus will continue their quest to solve the riddle of the game’s titular last fight and, hopefully, avert the destruction of the world in Ragnarok. Along the voyage, father and son will fight a variety of both new and ancient foes in numerous realms, possibly even coming face to face with the fabled All-Father.
While Odin didn’t physically present in God of War (2018), players heard many tales about the Asgardian king from Kratos’ devoted talking head companion Mimir, whose stories depict a considerably darker figure than most people are accustomed to. The character of Odin in God of War is said to be a ruthless and paranoid tyrant who has ordered the annihilation of numerous magical creatures, tortured Mimir by imprisoning his body inside a tree, and even imprisoned his own son Tyr for objecting to his murderous actions. This is in contrast to the strict but ultimately kind ruler depicted in Marvel’s adaptations of Nordic mythology. Fans may have recently seen their first glimpse of the storm-commanding despot ahead of the game’s November release. The original announcement video for “God of War Ragnarok” revealed that Kratos would face off against Odin on his final Nordic quest.
AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, a well-known leaker of video games, posted a Tumblr link to what appears to be a leaked picture of Odin from “God of War Ragnarok” (via Eurogamer). For those who choose to view the unconfirmed spoiler, the concept art shows Sir Anthony Hopkins’s portrayal of the Asgardian monarch in the MCU as an aged, somewhat weathered man with a greyish-brown beard and brilliant orange eyes. According to AestheticGamer, who is now “hanging onto a bunch of miscellaneous “God of War Ragnarok” artifacts,” even they were taken aback by how Odin will seem in the future game.
In “God of War Ragnarök,” Odin can be the last boss.
Given that “God of War Ragnarok” will act as the culmination to the Nordic plot begun in God of War, a showdown between Kratos and Odin seems imminent (2018). Odin’s participation in the future Ragnarok is unknown, but some fans believe Freya, Kratos’ erstwhile friend, is collaborating with the All-Father in an effort to exact revenge on her son Baldur after Kratos killed him at the conclusion of God of War (2018). In addition to these two formidable adversaries, Kratos and Atreus will engage in combat in “God of War: Ragnarok“ with Odin’s equally vicious son Thor, a showdown that was hinted at in God of War (2018)’s secret ending.
There won’t be a lack of foes for Kratos and Atreus in “God of War Ragnarok,” and given what was mentioned about Odin in the previous God of War game, he might be the most dangerous of all. The concept picture provided by AestheticGamer may differ from what most people think of when they think of Odin, but if Kratos and Atreus come up against him in “God of War Ragnarok,” the All-Father may very well show that appearances can be misleading.
